Know how,

manufacturing processes

Cold saponification, a traditional method
and ancestral.

How it works ?

Cold saponification is an artisanal manufacturing process, carried out entirely by hand , which allows natural saponification thanks to the heat resulting from the reaction between fatty substances (oils or butters), soda and water.

This manufacturing process is long and is organized in two phases.

The saponification phase  lasts a few days. When the temperature begins to decrease, the soaps are left to dry and then cut.

Then comes the cure phase , which lasts between four and eight weeks. It allows soaps to dry and harden.

Finally, after so much rest, the soaps are labeled, always by hand and leave to foam in your little hands!

Why use this technique?

Because it is good for the planet;) Indeed, this technique is particularly ecological !

  • It is very energy efficient at the manufacturing stage.

  • It is artisanal and cannot be carried out industrially.

  • Cold soap is a 100% natural product , it does not contain harmful chemical additives and irritants to the skin. It is tolerated by all skin types, even the most reactive.

  • No preservative is added.

  • Without packaging, cold soap is also 100% biodegradable.

Why is it good for the skin?

Industrial soaps dry out the skin because they often have too high a PH and are devoid of glycerin.

Cold soaps, on the other hand, contain natural glycerin which helps preserve the skin's natural moisture and therefore prevents dryness (and the crocodile skin effect!).

They are often superfatted (addition of oil at the end of production), which makes it possible to clean the skin without "stripping" it. We then speak of surgras soap . BioKankan soaps are superfatted (between 6% and 9% depending on the soap), which means that they received this percentage of excess oil during saponification, allowing the skin to fully benefit from it!

The "featherweight" carbon footprint

The BioKankan soap factory has been committed since its creation in an ethical, ecological, sustainable, reasonable and responsible approach . Its objective is to formulate and manufacture 100% organic and natural soaps and cosmetics, entirely made by hand.
BioKankan products respect your body and our planet.

BioKankan favors eco-responsible manufacturing of its products by carefully selecting raw materials from local, organic and fair trade productions . The quality and proximity of the production sites are at the heart of his project. For more distant and essential productions (shea butter or coconut oil), fair trade is favored with the search for suppliers with a minimum of intermediaries in trade.

The cold saponification process used is very energy efficient, it preserves the quality of the processed vegetable oils and allows 100% artisanal production .

Cold soap is a 100% natural product that contains no chemical additives, no synthetic fragrance, or preservatives harmful to health and the environment. By ethical and ecological choice, BioKankan excludes palm oil from its formulations. The ingredients are also selected for their virtues and properties, the dyes are of natural origin and give the products many benefits for the skin .

The choice to produce solid cosmetics reduces waste and therefore our impact on the environment by the virtual absence of packaging. It also induces water savings at the manufacturing stage.

In constant search for improvement, the composition of BioKankan products is bound to evolve. New local partnerships are being developed as well as a reflection, for example, on reducing the use of exotic essential oils.

The BioKankan soap factory strives to maintain a balance between a fair and affordable price for the consumer and peace of mind with regard to the products used.

Soaps that have nothing to hide from you!

BioKankan reveals all the secrets of the selected ingredients!

The list of INCI ingredients (compulsory nomenclature with official names) but also the composition (translation of the INCI) of each product appears on its packaging so that you have access to all the elements that make up your product.

Zero Waste

This approach aims to reduce our waste production as much as possible. This is about reviewing the way we consume in order to produce less waste at the source, and not simply to better integrate recycling into our lifestyles. Because in the first place, the best waste is the one that is not produced! BioKankan solid soaps and shampoos do not require unnecessary packaging and thus significantly reduce our waste. They are 100% biodegradable, only paper labels wrap them.

“Bulk” products are sold without labels.

Still in an ecological concern for waste reduction, refills for care balms and solid toothpastes are offered, the initial metal box can thus be reused by the consumer.

To complete the range "  Zero waste  », BioKankan also offers reusable accessories such as wipes and washcloths in OEKO TEX * certified sponge.

* These certifications ensure the absence of toxic products for the body and the environment.

Security

All BioKankan formulas are subject to toxicological evaluation and notification on the dedicated European site for the traceability of cosmetic products.

Mentions

Nature & Progrès, bio-ecological cosmetics

Founded in 1964, Nature & Progrès is a federation of organic producers and consumers to whom it owes the first approved organic specifications in the world.

Unlike more and more industrial organic farming, Nature & Progrès defends organic farming on a human scale and proximity.

The objective is to certify products sold which respect the environment. Regarding cosmetic products, the mention Nature & Progrès refers to the majority use of natural and organic ingredients. It is undoubtedly the most demanding mention on the market on the quality and origin of the ingredients used. Indeed, it imposes a rate of 100% of ingredients of natural and organic origin in the production of hygiene products and cosmetics. The charter (link) provides for conditions to be respected at all levels of the company's life: energy consumption, waste management, cleaning products used, etc.

Since 2015, all BioKankan products have been labeled Nature & Progrès, bio-ecological cosmetics.

The Slow Cosmétique mention, a movement for more reasonable and ecological cosmetics!

The Slow Cosmétique Association, non-profit, offers to consume beauty differently: less, but better!

The voluntary members of the association give their mention only to brands committed to ecological, ethical and reasonable beauty. Since 2012, the Slow Cosmétique association has been working to raise awareness among the public and players in the cosmetics market in order to guide them towards the responsible and positive alternative that the movement represents. The mention has since established itself as a pledge of ethical and ecological quality that the public can trust for their choices of cosmetic products.

This ecological and ethical approach is based on a common desire to promote a natural way of consuming cosmetics. It is based on four pillars: ecological, healthy, intelligent and reasonable cosmetics. Finally, it is embodied by an international association, a quality label and an e-boutique ( slow-cosmetique.com )

The Slow Cosmétique mention distinguishes craftsmen committed to clean and healthy products for the planet and health but also to reasonable marketing, which does not fool us!

The brands labeled Slow Cosmétique are worn by family businesses, often artisanal (and in sandals!). They manufacture ecological products rooted in the land.
